Screen Resolution and Page Layout (Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox)

I am searching for information about what makes a good design layout and came across this article from Jakob Nielsen discussing screen resolutions. It seems the concensus, as Roni mentioned to us, is 1024 x 768 – but making the site fluid so the site expands/contracts according to browser size. ” . . . optimize for 1024×768: present your most compelling material above the fold at this resolution (while ensuring that the absolutely critical information remains visible at 800×600).”
